Hernia Watch - day 4 - don't sneeze!
Well, another day gone, and still belly swollen like a swollen thing on a bad swelly day... But going well I think - although I did learn that holding in a sneeze is not a good option! I knew this though, and have done a couple of pathetic sneezes since Monday, but this one was a sneaker - one of those sneezes that come from nowhere, fast. As I was over my keyboard at the time, I didn't want to spray it, so half held the damn thing in. Wrong option. Instant red hot poker pain to the belly. I have since gingerly pressed and poked, and can't feel the 'squidge' of the bonsai hernia that was there, so don't think anything bad happened, just a good reminder.
Progress though, at the gym - managed to battle through an arm workout with no trouble, not using your abs certainly makes your form very very correct. So that was all good, I don't think this is going to hold me back too much at all (touch wood). So that is one box ticked - I can still do an arm workout. Which is handy, as it would always be nice to have arms that are bigger, certainly one body part that I feel is lagging.
I also did a fleet of one legged squats. I was feeling guilty (and jealous), as Vanessa was cranking out a pretty mean leg workout, and I was fluffing around with my 'beach muscles'. So one legged squats, sets of 20, ouch, but I loved them. If you do these things, try doing them on tip toes too - that, like that old toothpaste add used to say (Mrs Marsh wasn't it), "does get in"! So I think legs are going to be under control as I recover, back could be the problem, but we'll see in a day or two.
So there we are - 84 odd hours since the knife, and progress, with a good reminder not to go too hard to soon - from a sneeze. It stopped me from stepping into the squat rack anyway - someone had left a couple of ten kilos plates on, would have been ideal to 'test' myself on, but really, would have been a waste of time, and all it would have achieved is possibly aggravating the bonsai!
Also, both our readers might have noticed (Hi Cyril and Deano), there are a couple of sponsors added onboard to the site. Nutrition Plus and Raisey's Original. If you are after some good New Zealand made protein powders, give Raisey's a call and ask for a sample - tell them Bart sent you, and for all the other supplements that you need - Nutrition Plus is the one stop shop that has everything, and I mean everything on hand!
