Hernia Watch, a week +2 - don't cough!
Well, a week and a day since the knife, and tonight knocked out an arm workout that had me wishing I had measured my arms before and after! I felt like Arnold, but the mirror told me the truth, I still looked like Peewee Herman!
I keep getting reminders though, that I am not yet 100% tickety-boo. This morning I was punished when getting daughters chocolate slice out of her bag while she was finishing a homework project with me at work. There were a couple of crumbs, so I was 'tidying' by throwing them away down my throat. They went down the wrong way, and caused a cough. I thought I was going to pop - the same feeling last week as when I sneezed - the red hot poker jab, although this time not as bad, so it is improving!
I also tested the hernia repair out electronically. Unintentionally mind. I was feeding Ness' horse, and removing her cover last weekend, and after testing the electric fence with a couple of quick touches, decided that it was not on. However, my touches were too quick, and when I went to climb the fence, my trouser leg touched the fence, and THWACK, it was on after all! Shock went through all the limbs before centring again, on the repair job, and bringing out the red hot, electrified poker!
So it has become plain to me, that the safest place for me and the repaired bonsai is at the gym. There I am so conscious of not doing anything to damage myself that I have had zero discomfort. Except in the muscle groups that I am working out. Legs got a shock after my last workout - the higher reps, strict form, all good I expect.
It does suck though to have that swelling - you suck your gut in, and there is a huge alien trying to get out!! Does your head in that is for sure, but fortunately it is getting less and less - but I just wish it was not there and not there NOW!! Also while being able to train pretty intensely, it is not a drop in the ocean to what I had been getting into pre op, so that also sucks and pisses you off, and add in the inability to practise our new pairs routine, which ROCKS, sucks the most!
All in all then, a bit sucky at the moment not being 100%, but what is that song from that movie - 'always look on the bright side of life', The Life of Brian? So, it could have been worse, at least I am still able to train!
