Still trucking along
Time flies when you're having fun, and when you're training the house down too! It's been great back in the land of not being lean mean posing machines. Now mass building maniacs (I'll think of something better than that 'MBM' at some stage).
So yes, we're alive and well, and gearing up for another busy holiday season in Whangamata. But who cares about that, training has been going great guns! Still the early morning training sessions going down, training down to four days a week, for plenty of recovery.
And that recovery is needed. Our latest programme is fantastic. Chest and biceps on day one, so when day two dawns, the chest feels like a bulldozer has been parked on it, and the arms as weak a babies.
Day two though, legs, that soon takes your mind off your chest. Especially when you start into those 'wussy' lunges. I used to hate them because I thought they did bugger all, now I hate them because once I finish the third set I can hardly stand. No longer wussy lunges, now the devils plaything.
That's the first two days of the week dusted. Wednesday is a day off weights, meant to be cardio. I say meant to be, but with the ability to walk limited thanks to the previous days leg session, cardio consists of treadmill ambles and stationary cycle dawdles. And if I can strap my feet in, perhaps a gentle row also.
Thursday dawns, well, usually a weights day, but Ness has picked up a spin class Thursday morning, so I'll tag along there as she does the instructor thing, so Thursday weights now gets delayed to Friday, and Saturday nothing day becomes Friday's weights day. So Thursday, spin, I'll let you know how that goes shortly, tomorrow the first spin day. I hope I can walk to the bike in the first place...
Next up then, weights, Friday (instead of Thursday), shoulders. Another punishing workout from Dr Payne's book of evil. Holding arms above head becomes a task and a half at the end of this baby. But fortunately, your legs are still so buggered that you don't even notice the tired shoulders!
Saturday, which used to be Friday is back. Anchored around deadlifts, of the low rep, heavy weight variety. This just polishes off the legs properly - they are usually starting on their 'feeling better' phase by the time back comes around, but the deadlift just tops them up nicely - for me last week it threw my calves back into purgatory, so come the leg workout Tuesday, my calves were still sore, seven days after the fact.
So that's us at the moment. Training hard, and able to train hard as we're on a little more food than we have been, and carrying a bit more bodyfat. Certainly feeling more human, and probably looking a bit more human too, but at times hard to get your head around the fact that you can't see every muscle in your body anymore, ten percent bodyfat instead of 2 or 3 makes a hell of a difference!
